Stephen and Tricia Ostertag, both veteran Players Guild actors and now parents of a 1-year-old, are
launching a new local stage troupe, the Silver Star Youth Theatre Company.
“We’re dedicated to giving children the opportunity to be onstage,” Tricia says. “There will be adult
roles occasionally, but generally our shows will be kids performing for kids.
“We also want to give families the opportunity to experience the arts in a new affordable way,” she
adds. Ticket prices will not top $10.
Silver Star is teaming with Stark Parks for a trio of upcoming outdoor events. A Princess Picnic in the
Park will happen July 26 at 2 p.m. at Petros Lake Park in Perry Township, featuring a concert of
princess-themed songs, games, crafts and a menu of fairy fruit wands, finger sandwiches, mousse and
cookies. (Princes also are welcome.) Tickets, $10, may be ordered at (330) 418-5766.
A Pirate’s Lagoon party will be Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Cook’s Park lagoon, with a pirate battle and
treasure hunt. For Halloween, there will be a “Legend of Sleepy Hollow”-themed event on the trails at
Sippo Lake Park in Perry Township. “It will be eerie but not scary,” Tricia says.
Four Silver Star productions are planned for the 2009-2010 season at the Lions Lincoln Theatre in
downtown Massillon: “Seussical Jr.,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Rhymes and Mimes of Mother Goose”
and “Annie Jr.” Dates will be announced.
